Understanding Auto Part Selection

Three Things To Grab From A Salvage Yard Before You Even Need Them

Salvage yards can be gold mines for mechanics and car owners alike. Going to a salvage yard is not something that many car owners do, as they may be more comfortable getting all work and parts done at a mechanics shop. There are some things that would be a good idea to have before you know that you need them in an emergency. here are three items you should take for your car from a salvage yard before you have a need for them.

An extra tire

Tires are often something that you replace as a set unless you have an emergency. In the event of a flat tire, you will likely have to change out the tire to the spare in the back of your trunk. Spare donut tires are not the same as regular tires and you can only drive on a donut tire for a short amount of time. If you are not in the financial position to invest in a brand new tire, this could cause you to be over budget and cause your car issues if you drive more than a few days on a spare. Going to the salvage yard and getting the tire off of a matching vehicle will allow you to carry around an actual tire. This way, when you change your tire after a flat, you can continue to drive with your extra tire permanently, until you decide to invest in new tires for your entire car.

A car jack

A new car jack is one of those items that you may not find to be a purchase. Though not fun, it is necessary, as you may need to jack up your car in order to change a tire or to check underneath the vehicle for another issue on the road. Instead of purchasing a brand new car jack, you can pop the trunk of vehicles inside of the salvage yard, and find a car jack. This will be much lower in cost than a jack from the store and will work just the same.

Better car headlights

Not only can you get headlights from a car at a salvage yard, you may be able to get better headlights than your current pair. Some cars have blue tinted headlights or led headlights that may fit onto your current car. These headlights make road sight easier and can be used if your current lights go out. Find a better set of headlights from the salvage yard and keep them in the event that you want to make a car change.
